About the research group

The research group conducts research on the education and professional development of student teachers, teachers and teacher educators working in different contexts (i.e. teacher education, primary education, secondary education) and in different phases of their careers (i.e. pre-service, novice, experienced).

The research conducted focuses mainly on student teachers’, teachers’, and teacher educators’ learning processes, the factors that affect these learning processes, and possible outcomes of these learning processes. All kind of research methodologies are implemented, including a strong focus on intervention studies.

Four research lines

The research lines are situated within international challenges and gaps the field of teacher education and professional development is confronted with. The research lines are further complementary with the work of the other research groups of the Department of Educational Studies at Ghent University.

Instructional strategies in teacher education and training didactics

Professional development of teachers and teacher educators

Support and guidance of beginning teachers

Technology in education and teacher education

“Teachers’ learning and professional development are lifelong and complex processes. Scientific research is needed to further understand these processes and how to support them in order to be successful.”
