Status

I am Ruben Vanderlinde, a professor in the Department of Educational Studies at Ghent University and the coordinator of the research group ‘Teacher Education & Professional Development’. Additionally, I serve as the chair for the Teacher Education Program Committee at Ghent University. I teach the courses ‘Educational Innovation’ and ‘Pedagogy of Teaching’ within the bachelor’s and master’s programs in Educational Sciences. I also teach within the Educational Master’s in Behavioral Sciences and the Master’s in Primary Education.

Research

My research interests are in the areas of educational innovation, the induction of beginning teachers, teacher education, professional development, and the integration of information and communication technologies (ICT) in education. I publish extensively on these topics in both Web of Science journals and more practice-oriented educational journals. My research projects are fundamental in nature but can also have societal valorization. Methodologically, I specialize in mixed-method research. I am the author of over 80 SSCI articles and various books and book chapters, the supervisor of 12 successfully completed doctorates, and the supervisor of 9 ongoing doctorates. Several research projects have won international awards. I am a reviewer for multiple Web of Science journals, a member of the editorial advisory board of ‘Teachers & Teaching: Theory and Practice’, a section board member of ‘Education Sciences’, and a member of the editorial board of the ‘Journal of Educational Law & Policy’.

Background information

In my role as chair of the Teacher Education Program Committee at Ghent University, I am also a member of the teacher education working group of the Flemish Interuniversity Council (VLIR). Additionally, I coordinate the Teacher Education Network (TEN) within the European inter-university collaboration ENLIGHT. I am also one of the founders of InFo-TED (International Forum for Teacher Educator Development), a visiting scholar at the Curry School of Education (University of Virginia, USA), and at the Open University of Catalonia (Barcelona). Furthermore, I am co-coordinator of the Dutch ICO group ‘Educational Design and Curriculum Development’ (ICO: Interuniversity Centre for Educational Sciences). In recent years, I have also been a member of the EAPRIL board (European Association for Practitioner Research on Improving Learning), secretary of the VFO (Flemish Forum for Educational Research), and chair of the Flemish steering group for ‘Training for Teacher Educators’.
