My name is Jonas Dierickx. In October 2025, I began my doctoral research at the Department of Educational Sciences at Ghent University. My doctoral research is the result of a collaborative partnership between my supervisors, Prof. Dr Ruben Vanderlinde and Prof. Dr Tammy Schellens, representing Ghent University, and Dr Delphine Sasanguie, representing Ghent University of Applied Sciences.
Within my doctoral research, I aim to gain an in-depth understanding of the use, perceptions, attitudes, and skills of student teachers and teacher educators in relation to generative artificial intelligence (GenAI). To this end, a mixed-methods research design is employed. In the first phase of my doctorate, I will explore the context of teacher education and GenAI in an exploratory manner. In a subsequent phase, an intervention study will be developed.
In 2021, I obtained my educational bachelor’s degree in secondary education, specialising in biology and Dutch. I subsequently completed my Master’s degree in Pedagogy and Educational Sciences at Ghent University in 2024, combining my studies with work as a secondary school teacher and later as a practice lecturer. From September 2024 onwards, I was appointed as a substitute teaching assistant at the Department of Educational Sciences and as a lecturer in teacher education programmes at VIVES University of Applied Sciences in Bruges and Torhout. Following that academic year, I began my doctoral research.
